Avoiding the innovation island in infrastructure mega-project

摘要: Infrastructure mega-project (IMP) innovation is a complex process characterized by highly diverse innovators, a dynamic life-cycle, and stickiness of innovation knowledge. The IMP’s innovation network can be easily broken due to the fact that the network involves many different innovators across different industries and different projects. Further reasons for the fragility of the IMP’s innovation network are the dynamics of the IMP life-cycle, the diversity of the IMP’s innovative entities, the uniqueness of each IMP, and the temporary nature of each IMP’s organizations. The formed by the breaking of an IMP’s innovation network can stifle and harm innovation performance. Drawing from the knowledge-based view as well as innovation network theory, our research identifies the heterogeneous characte- ristics of IMP innovation. We propose a framework to analyze the formation mechanism of the IMP innovation island from three dimensions—the , the , and the . We look at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge project to elaborate the innovation island concept that negatively impacts IMP innovation. We also offer theoretical implications regarding the broader question of how IMPs can manage their innovation in practice.

A novel variant in the gene in a large Chinese family with a unique phenotype of Clouston syndrome

摘要: Clouston syndrome (OMIM #129500), also known as hidrotic ectodermal dysplasia type 2, is a rare autosomal dominant skin disorder. To date, four mutations in the GJB6 gene, G11R, V37E, A88V, and D50N, have been confirmed to cause this condition. In previous studies, the focus has been mainly on gene sequencing, and there has been a lack of research on clinical manifestations and pathogenesis. To confirm the diagnosis of this pedigree at the molecular level and summarize and analyse the clinical phenotype of patients and to provide a basis for further study of the pathogenesis of the disease, we performed whole-exome and Sanger sequencing on a large Chinese Clouston syndrome pedigree. Detailed clinical examination included histopathology, hair microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. We found a novel heterozygous missense variant (c.134G>C:p.G45A) for Clouston syndrome. We identified a new clinical phenotype involving all nail needling pain in all patients and found a special honeycomb hole structure in the patients’ hair under scanning electron microscopy. Our data reveal that a novel variant (c.134G>C:p.G45A) plays a likely pathogenic role in this pedigree and highlight that genetic testing is necessary for the diagnosis of Clouston syndrome.

重复压裂高效暂堵剂研制与评价

摘要:

根据中浅层油气藏重复压裂暂堵老缝压开新缝,以及压裂过程控制裂缝转向的需要,研制了一种新型的高效缝内暂堵剂,并通过实验评价了暂堵剂产生暂堵的机理,包括暂堵材料粒度、注入流量和浓度等对暂堵效果的影响;并对暂堵后裂缝延伸及压后返排对气井生产的影响进行了非线性有限元数值分析,研究表明该暂堵剂具有良好的暂堵效果,对气井无二次污染,并在重复压裂中对气层起到了很好的保护作用。

Assessment of novel nature-inspired fuzzy models for predicting long contraction scouring and related

摘要: The scouring phenomenon is one of the major problems experienced in hydraulic engineering. In this study, an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system is hybridized with several evolutionary approaches, including the ant colony optimization, genetic algorithm, teaching-learning-based optimization, biogeographical-based optimization, and invasive weed optimization for estimating the long contraction scour depth. The proposed hybrid models are built using non-dimensional information collected from previous studies. The proposed hybrid intelligent models are evaluated using several statistical performance metrics and graphical presentations. Besides, the uncertainty of models, variables, and data are inspected. Based on the achieved modeling results, adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system–biogeographic based optimization (ANFIS-BBO) provides superior prediction accuracy compared to others, with a maximum correlation coefficient (Rtest = 0.923) and minimum root mean square error value (RMSEtest = 0.0193). Thus, the proposed ANFIS-BBO is a capable cost-effective method for predicting long contraction scouring, thus, contributing to the base knowledge of hydraulic structure sustainability.

Incorporation of 3-dimensional lycopodium with hydrophobic nature and interconnected nano-channels into

摘要: In the present research, for the first time, lycopodium as a novel nanofiller was incorporated into a polyvinylidene fluoride matrix to fabricate lycopodium/polyvinylidene fluoride flat-sheet membrane for desalination applications by vacuum membrane distillation process. The prepared lycopodium/polyvinylidene fluoride membranes and lycopodium were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared, energy dispersive X-ray, and mapping analyses. Water contact angle and liquid entry pressure measurements were also performed. Response surface methodology was applied to optimize membrane structure and performance. The optimized lycopodium/polyvinylidene fluoride membrane exhibits superior performance compared to the neat polyvinylidene fluoride membrane in terms of flux, salt rejection, water contact angle, and hydrophobicity. In vacuum membrane distillation experiments, using a 15000 ppm NaCl solution as a feed at 70 °C, the neat polyvinylidene fluoride membrane, optimum membrane, and agglomerated membrane (with high lycopodium loading) demonstrated 3.80, 25.20, and 14.83 LMH flux and 63.30%, 99.99%, 99.96% salt rejection, respectively. This improvement in flux and salt rejection of the optimized membrane was related to the presence of lycopodium with hydrophobic nature and interconnected nano-channels in membrane structure. It was found that lycopodium, as the most hydrophobic material, effectively influences the membrane performance and structure for membrane distillation applications.

noble metal nanoparticles toward hydrodechlorination: influence of catalyst electronic structure and nature

摘要: In this study, stabilized Pd, Pt and Au nanoparticles were successfully prepared in aqueous phase using sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) as a capping agent. These metal nanoparticles were then tested for catalytic hydrodechlorination toward two classes of organochlorinated compounds (vinyl polychlorides including trichloroethylene (TCE), tetrachloroethylene (PCE), and alkyl polychlorides including 1,1,1-trichloroethane (1,1,1-TCA), and 1,1,1,2-tetrachloroethane (1,1,1,2-TeCA)) to determine the rate-limiting steps and to explore the reaction mechanisms. The surface area normalized reaction rate constant, , showed a systematic dependence on the electronic structure (the density of states at the Fermi level) of the metals, suggesting that adsorption of organochlorinated reactants on the metal catalyst surfaces is the rate-limiting step for catalytic hydrodechlorination. Hydrodechlorination rates of 1,1,1-TCA and 1,1,1,2-TeCA agreed with the bond strength of the first (weakest) dissociated C-Cl bond, suggesting that C-Cl bond cleavage, which is the first step for dissociative adsorption of the alkyl polychlorides, controlled the catalytic hydrodechlorination rate. However, hydrodechlorination rates of TCE and PCE correlated with the adsorption energies of their molecular (non-dissociative) adsorption on the noble metals rather than with the first C-Cl bond strength, suggesting that molecular adsorption governs the reaction rate for hydrodechlorination of the vinyl polychlorides.

基于评价方法属性层次的组合评价研究

摘要:

针对现存的多种单一综合评价方法机理、属性层次相异引起的对同一个对象评价结论不相容的问题,提出一种新的组合评价方法。定义了“具有相容性”与“特殊属性”的两类综合评价方法;建立了两个组合评价模型,分别将这两个属性层次方法所得的不一致的评价值与排序结论进行组合;在此基础上提出“复组合”的概念。并应用此模型对我国欠发达地区15个城市的综合实力进行评价,使得系统评价更具有科学性和实用性,为欠发达地区开发战略制订宏观经济政策提供实证基础。

摘要: Concrete compressive strength prediction is an essential process for material design and sustainability. This study investigates several novel hybrid adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) evolutionary models, i.e., ANFIS–particle swarm optimization (PSO), ANFIS–ant colony, ANFIS–differential evolution (DE), and ANFIS–genetic algorithm to predict the foamed concrete compressive strength. Several concrete properties, including cement content (C), oven dry density (O), water-to-binder ratio (W), and foamed volume (F) are used as input variables. A relevant data set is obtained from open-access published experimental investigations and used to build predictive models. The performance of the proposed predictive models is evaluated based on the mean performance (MP), which is the mean value of several statistical error indices. To optimize each predictive model and its input variables, univariate (C, O, W, and F), bivariate (C–O, C–W, C–F, O–W, O–F, and W–F), trivariate (C–O–W, C–W–F, O–W–F), and four-variate (C–O–W–F) combinations of input variables are constructed for each model. The results indicate that the best predictions obtained using the univariate, bivariate, trivariate, and four-variate models are ANFIS–DE– (O) (MP= 0.96), ANFIS–PSO– (C-O) (MP= 0.88), ANFIS–DE– (O–W–F) (MP= 0.94), and ANFIS–PSO– (C–O–W–F) (MP= 0.89), respectively. ANFIS–PSO– (C–O) yielded the best accurate prediction of compressive strength with an MP value of 0.96.

MECHANISMS IN DIVERSIFYING AGRICULTURAL SYSTEMS FOR SUSTAINABILITY: EXPERIENCE FROM STUDIES DEPLOYING NATURE-BASED

To achieve the triple challenge of food security, reversing biodiversity declines plus mitigating and adapting to climate change, there is a drive to embed ecological principles into agricultural, value-chain practices and decision-making. By diversifying cropping systems at several scales there is potential to decrease reliance on inputs, provide resilience to abiotic and biotic stress, enhance plant, microbe and animal biodiversity, and mitigate against climate change. In this review we highlight the research performed in Scotland over the past 5 years into the impact of the use of ecological principles in agriculture on sustainability, resilience and provision of ecosystem functions. We demonstrate that diversification of the system can enhance ecosystem functions. Soil and plant management interventions, including nature-based solutions, can also enhance soil quality and utilization of legacy nutrients. Additionally, this is facilitated by greater reliance on soil biological processes and trophic interactions. We highlight the example of intercropping with legumes to deliver sustainability through ecological principles and use legumes as an exemplar of the innovation. We conclude that there are many effective interventions that can be made to deliver resilient, sustainable, and diverse agroecosystems for crop and food production, and these may be applicable in any agroecosystem.
